It's with great sadness that we learned of Ray Witty’s passing on the 28th December 2020 from a heart attack. This is a huge shock to his family, the company and his work mates. Ray was our longest serving current employee starting in 1964 and holding a wide variety of roles through the factory, most recently in Large Jet Machining and Assembly.
Over his 56 years Ray touched many hundreds of lives within this great company. Everyone knew Ray and if there was a new face to the company he was the first to ask after them and would find out what they did. He would stand and wave to all the dayshift staff leaving as his afternoon shift would start. His knowledge of machining and our products was unsurpassable and if there was ever a “five minute job” to be done after the day shift had left they knew that when they came in the next day it would be complete (of course they were rarely 5 minutes and often challenging!). We are honoured that many of our team work beyond retirement age, and Ray was one of the most dedicated. Yet he had not slowed down at all in his latter years, regularly showing up the younger folks with his output.
All of us at HamiltonJet will miss Ray for his wit and gentlemanly characteristics. A fine man who knew more about our company and products few ever will again. Rest in peace.
Ray’s son David and daughter Georgia have kindly invited any of his workmates that would like to pay their respects to the funeral at Harewood Crematorium on Wednesday the 6th January 2021 at 2:30pm.
